Does not work reliably (seems to have its own personality). Sometimes it works and everything is awesome (good audio, good image), sometimes it doesn’t detect my TV (output LED goes off), sometimes it isn’t detected by the output (computer says there is nothing connected, XBOX doesn’t show image). Overall, kind of disapointed. Will probably just upgrade to a receiver with HDMI and save myself some trouble.

I ended up sending this back because I ended up not needing it. I had it splitting the HDMI signal from an Intel NUC, so I could have HDMI for video to the TV and the optical connection to my soundbar so I could get multichannel encoded video (DD, DTS, etc.). Well, I don’t know what the problem was, but the HDMI handshake would fail at some point in the chain when this was between it and the NUC changed video modes. The NUC connected directly to the TV was fine. I also tried inserting a Dr. HDMI in between the NUC and this, and this and the TV; the behavior remained the same. I ended up sending the NUC and this back. I got a Gigabyte Brix for my HTPC; it has a optical output. I’m happy.

Works well. Needed this to extract the audio from the HDMI going to my projector. It does the job. Very small. Ends up in the middle of the pile of cables in behind the stereo. Would have been nice to have all the cables come out just one side so it would more easily sit atop the other electronics.

J-tech you are my heroes. HDMI is a pain to work it.

Does what it’s supposed to – outputs 5.1 too. Couldn’t get it working with my Raspberry Pi but that may have been an issue with the Pi.
