It works for me It works very good. It converts HDMI to SDI perfectly. Do not need any drive. Plug and play.

2 out of 4 are still working; 1 had a short (could smell the electronics melt) and the other lights up, but either doesn’t see the signal or the outputs on both SDI ports don’t work. Strongly advise avoiding this product.

HDMI to SDI convert has only one purpose. These work great with my setup of HDMI cameras that need to run a long distance to a Blackmagic ATEM. My only complaint is I hope they make a Rev2 that uses a Mini USB port as the DC power supply (to run off of USB power packs) and they have 1/4″‑20 through mount for tripods. If they did that these would be the perfect companion for a DIY studio / flypack.

Blackmagic products are EXTREMELY aggravating bc there seems to be no handbook/manual on what cables (connections, lengths, ohms, etc) are compatible with what signal / resolution you are trying to produce. So spending $$$ to buy converters and guessing correct cable specs is very frustrating and is a huge waste of time (and in my experience, $$$). That being said, this review is not about Blackmagic products. 1st: I am running signal via HDMI from a Canon Vixia about 8ft to this converter. TRICKY, bc if the HDMI cable is too long or cheap, Blackmagic ATEM will NOT “Shake Hands” (recognize signal) with your equipment. 2nd Step: The cable running from the converter to the ATEM, has to be like at least a RG59 @ 75ohms or RG6 to work (there is fine print with the unit which is not here me at the moment). 3rd: My Canon Vixia has automatic output (resolution quality). It DID NOT work once I added the converter. So, I had to manually set my HDMI Output to 1080i (and the ATEM Program Settings as well), before This configuration worked. Im guessing the difference between accomplishing 1080i and 1080p is all in the cable quality, connections, and running lengths. Ex: Im getting 1080i using 50ft of RG59 @ 75 ohms. But im also converting mini HDMI from my camera, to HDMI at the converter. So Either an RG6 or better HDMI solution could potentially gain me the full 1080p signal. But that experiment would require more time and more money. So I hope this information is useful to someone. -P Scott

I am using mine to play my Apple TV through a Tricaster 300. The converter works as it should no color issues. I had the run the HDMI though a splitter first since the Apple TV doesn’t recognize the tricaster as a monitor bu that is not the converters fault. Would recommend.
